Highlights
Logistics is a critical enabler of supply chain , encompassing transportation, distribution and inventory management.
India is today seen as a focal point of a major boom in the logistics and supply chain industry a land of opportunity for logistics service providers from all over the world due to its huge market, growing manufacturing sector, rapid development in hinterland connectivity and multimodal transportation, huge infrastructure investment and the emergence of specialised, IT-driven, supply chain providers.
The logistics industry in India is transforming from a conventional storage-transportation concept to professional management of the supply chain as a strategic tool for growth and competitiveness.
The demand for logistics services in India has been largely driven by the remarkable growth of the economy, projected to grow at
9-10 per cent in the next few years (compared to the world GDP growth rate of 3 per cent). The Indian logistics market, valued at $14 billion a couple of years ago,
is expected to grow at a CAGR (compounded annual growth rate) of 7-8 per cent , which implies more output and more demand for specialised logistics services.
It is this potential of exponential growth in the coming years that has led to, despite the bottlenecks, inefficiencies and fragmentation, several foreign players entering the Indian market and gaining prominence in a short span of time.
All these issues and many more will be the topics of deliberation at the
4th CONquest 2013 - An International Conference, on February 2013 at Le Meridien, Janpath New Delhi. Through interactive sessions on infrastructure, logistics and supply chain , the event's high-profile speakers will collectively bring a wealth of knowledge and understanding about the ever-changing strategies in the global logistics industry.
